New Comic Book Day! 8/16/17

Another Wednesday brings another batch of new comic books for those of us who just have to pick them up the day they drop. Here’s a selection of cool new books to look for if you swing by your local comic shop this week:

New Comics

Dark Nights: Metal #1

This new comic limited series has been a long time coming. We’ve seen the events hinted at in Dark Days: The Forge and Dark Days: The Casting, but Dark Nights: Metal promises to bring some answers about Nth Metal and the Dark Multiverse.

Writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo reunite to create the first installment of a DC event that will pit the Justice League against some major threats, including Mongul’s robot gladiators. The first issue even includes a cameo that will make fans of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series excited.

New Comic

Invincible #139

Invincible is coming to a close in its usual bloody, alien-chaos fashion with an army of Robots abducting the children of Vitrumites living on earth as all-out war is taking place between the Earth’s alien residents and the armies amassed biologically by the exiled Grand Regent of the former Vitrumite empire. Only five new comics remain until we have to say our goodbyes with Mark and his violent friends as Invincible will end with issue #144.

New Comic

The Mighty Thor #22

Volstagg, having traded in his insatiable appetite for the hammer and title of Ultimate Thor, fights alongside the non-Ultimate Thor to stop the eternal flames of Muspelheim from spreading through the more flammable realms.

New Comic

Astonishing X-Men #2

Having been brought together by the unconscious psychic summons of a rampaging Psylocke, Rogue, Gambit, Beast, Old Man Logan, and Fantomex must make their way into the Astral Plane to confront Shadow King before he uses his psychic abilities to terrorize the entire planet.

New Comic

Future Quest Showcase #1

Space Ghost and his young wards Jan and Jace team up with the Herculoids to rebuild the mighty Space Force. Will they rise again to become defenders of the galaxy? Or is there something lurking in the shadows ready to stop them for good?
