Fenix Fire Releases New Source Gameplay Video

Publisher Fenix Fire has just released a new Source (Not, not that one) gameplay video, showcasing the new overall improvements of the shift to the unreal engine, the most noticeable being the visual overhaul. The trailer shows the gorgeous level design, alongside some of it’s interesting gameplay mechanics.

Source, showcased last year at PAX east, is a metroidvania arcade adventure game that puts you on the role of a firefly with the power to harness energy, having the purpose of finding out the motives behind the world’s widespread disintegration. To achieve this goal, you can gather, grow, and redistribute energy, while navigating mind bending puzzles, exploring vast lands, and fighting “powerful creatures while constantly seeking new and powerful upgrades to aid you in your quest.” Death is also a part of the game mechanics, having your character being reborn into a new more powerful  metamorphosed creature with more abilities and strength, provided you .

Oh, did I mention combat?

According to Fenix Fire, here are a few of the features available in Source:

  • Explore huge interconnected worlds
  • Uncover secret and permanent upgrades
  • Backtrack and unlock new areas
  • Lift and throw anything, even creatures!
  • Incredible FX with millions of particles
  • Unreal 4 rendering technology
  • Amazing original soundtrack

Although a relatively new studio, Fenix Fire is composed of some veterans developers from companies such as Blizzard Entertainment and High Voltage Software, along with some new junior developers.

Source is planned for release on the PS4, Xbox One, and Steam in 2015.
